16/8/11 : Q, Myspace, The Tower and LeeFest

A lot has been happening since the release of our single 'Desert Tracks' - For Folk's Sake said "This is music that shines with grandeur" and we won the reader's poll for Single Of The Week on The 405 web site.

Then Q Magazine's web site featured another of our new tracks 'The Tower' as their exclusive Track Of The Day - and the next day the same track was featured on the front page of MySpace UK (we were next to Elbow - in good company!). 'The Tower' also got a great review on All Around Sound - you can download it now via the Q Magazine web site or wait until it's proper physical release as a part of our next EP in a few months.

Then we went to LeeFest and had a cracking day playing to people firstly as wandering minstrels and then during our set on the Wonderland stage which went down a storm. Photos on the photos page... we also met Keston Cobblers' Club who were amazing, and filmed a new music video for an old song (watch this space!). All in all, we've had a very busy two weeks!

1/8/11 : Desert Tracks - Available now!

Our new single 'Desert Tracks' is now available. It's a song about abandoned diamond mines, Namibia, sand and horses.

1/7/11 : Booked Out Original Soundtrack

We are pleased to reveal the original soundtrack for the new indie feature film Booked Out, written and performed by Mark West (of The Lost Cavalry) and Derek Yau, and produced by Mark West. Thirteen pieces written especially for the film Booked Out. The trailer for the film has also been released today.

"Booked Out is a quirky UK indie comedy starring Mirren Burke, Rollo Weeks, Claire Garvey and Sylvia Syms, following the lives of a quirky and intriguing set of characters that spend the majority of their time within a block of flats wondering how to interact with each other..."

We worked on the score during the end of 2010 and the start of this year and are proud to now release it as a full album available to buy from today from our band shop... click here to visit the band shop and download the soundtrack!.

15/6/11 : Gigs in June

We're playing at the Old Queens Head in Islington tomorrow night for 'Oh! Inverted World' (Facebook event here) - and then the day after, on Friday we're playing at Offline Club in Brixton (Facebook event here) which will be a bit of a party gig I think - we're on at 11:45pm...

We also have some nice gigs coming up on the Tamesis Dock boat (29/6/11) and The Windmill (21/7/11) and also acoustic sets at LeeFest (13/8/11) and Blythe Hill Fields Festival (2/7/11).

And in non-gig news, we have a couple of music videos on the way (if all goes to plan) and of course our next single 'Desert Tracks' which should be popping up here and there on Soundcloud, last.fm, spotify and so on soon... release date is 1st August!

5/5/11 : Sing on our next EP!

Later in the year we will be releasing our second EP, which will feature our new song 'The Flood' which we have almost finished recording... but what it really needs are your vocals!

Wherever you are in the world, if you fancy adding your voice to the big sing-a-long 'la la la' bit at the end of the song then all you need to do is download the special backing track from this web site and follow the instructions. You'll need to have access to some kind of microphone, some headphones and some recording software (like Garage Band or something) and be able to sing mostly in tune (!), but basically, if you follow the instructions and send us back a file of your singing we will add it to the song and it will appear on the EP itself when it's released!

The more people who do this, the better the end of the song will sound! Download the backing track and instructions here and please send your singing back before the 31st of May... one, two, three... 'la la laaaa la la laaaa!'...

28/4/11 : New The Lost Cavalry releases and gig

Ahoy there! It's taken a while (I will mainly blame the film soundtrack we worked on since the last single!) but we're pleased to announce that we will be releasing our next single 'Desert Tracks' this summer. We've been working on the song for a while and we recorded it earlier this year at Soup Studios, Brick Lane with overdubs and mixing performed at my little home studio. So - more details nearer the time of course, but we will also be releasing a special free mp3 of another track to our mailing list soon, so sign up now if you haven't already, or 'friend' us on Facebook.

We'll also be playing a gig pretty soon in Camden - Tuesday 10th May at The Monarch with Friends In China and Clicky Bones. 40-42 Chalk Farm Road, London, NW1 8BG. You'd be most welcome to come!

21/4/11 : Song for a buried Elephant

I heard on the news last week about another story of a Victorian circus elephant buried under the ground - not in Ealing this time, but in Tregaron in Wales, and the dig being organised to try to find evidence (thanks to Amos for letting me know about it!).

Because the Internet is the amazing thing that it is, I got talking to the archaeologist organising the dig - Jemma Bezant - who was lovely, and after having a listen to our song about The Elephant Of Castlebar Hill she asked if she could use it as the sound track to her video of the dig - and here it is...

As you can see from the video and from this update to the story the elephant hasn't been found yet... but best of luck to Jemma in continuing the search!

16/3/11 : Gig relocated to Ginglik

Just a quick note to say that our gig next week (22nd March) has been moved to the venue Ginglik - in Shepherds Bush. It's a nice venue built inside the old public toilets - sounds bad, but actually very nice in there, we played a Fanfarlo gig there once back in the Old Days. Anyway - come along if you can, tickets are on sale in advance from www.dropevents.co.uk and more info on the event and the other bands playing is here on Facebook.

21/2/11 : Here's Jonny

We are pleased to reveal that we have a new addition to The Lost Cavalry - in the human shape of Jonny, formerly the drummer with The Loves - who sadly played their farewell gig last Sunday (which was an amazing gig by the way). Jonny's a great drummer and a great guy and we're all excited to have him join our ranks. We've also booked our first gig of 2011 with him, on 22nd March at Notting Hill Arts Club, where we'll also be debuting a couple of new songs - we're back baby!

And in other news, the Booked Out film score is done and dusted and Derek and I are pleased with it. So, all attention is now on the second The Lost Cavalry EP, which should be released in May... which seems a long time off still, but these things take a long time - we may release a free mp3 sneak preview before then.
